5 New Rep Teams + 3 new Select teams!
Submitted By John Verdon on Tuesday, March 14, 2017
As previously noted, the Oakville Rangers Hockey Club (formerly MOHA) has a renewed focus on retaining our current players and building programs that will bring Oakville players currently playing outside of Oakville back home.

One of the primary obstacles to achieving this goal is capacity.  Quite simply, Oakville produces more Rep calibre (AE, A, AA and AAA) players than our club can currently accommodate so – some people leave the club.

To address this issue, we added 2 more Rep teams a few months ago, and today, we are adding 5 more Rep teams and 3 HL Select teams.  That means 170 more kids who have the ability and interest to be a part of a Rep or Rep-like experience will have that opportunity this upcoming year.  Currently, the club has 40 Rep teams – next year we will have 47 Rep teams and 3 Select teams.  The new teams are Novice AE, Atom AE, Peewee AE, Minor Bantam AE, Bantam AE, Novice Select, Minor Atom Select and Atom Select.  The plan is to have the new Rep teams picked by a committee of AAA, AA and A coaches at the end of tryouts.  IF there are enough returning players and enough current HL players to make a competitive Rep team, then we will pick a team and select a coach.  However, IF there aren’t enough interested/qualified players, we will remove the team.

So, if you and/or your child have been doing the ‘tryout math’ and concluding that you don’t have a chance of making an Oakville team this year so you better leave (or not come back), then maybe this information gives you something to think about.

We are committed to putting programming and structure in place that leads to the development of great hockey players, even greater kids and happy hockey families.  We appreciate your support.
