Sean McMonagle was born in Oakville, ON. He discovered his talent at the age of six and with an undeniable bribe from his parents, he agreed to take the ice, and has never wanted to step off it since. Throughout the hectic schedule, countless arenas, late nights and early mornings, McMonagle demonstrated qualities of dedication, motivation, determination, and passion. He started playing hockey with the Oakville Rangers, before moving to the Oakville Blades and the Hamilton Red Wings in the OPJHL.

In 2004 he was drafted in the 8th round, 147th overall by the Peterborough Petes in the OHL Priority Selection. He declined an offer to play in the OHL so he could work toward a Division 1 scholarship. In 2006, McMonagle committed to a full hockey scholarship from prestigious Brown University in Providence, RI.

He attended Brown University from 2006-10 and played hockey with the Brown Bears in the NCAA League. He was picked up by the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL in 2009, staying with them until the following season. A visit to Germany in December 2011 left a lasting impression on McMonagle and the Bears alum was so impressed by what he experienced in there, he decided to return full time.

RT Bad Nauheim announced the signing of McMonagle to an agreement for the 2013/14 season. “When I was in Sweden, I once spent my Christmas holiday in Germany, I fell in love immediately. Since then I wanted to be a professional in Germany and play there," said McMonagle.   Germany is added to a list of professional stops that included Las Vegas of the ECHL (2010/11), Tingsryds AIF of Sweden (2011/12) and Alleghe of Italy (2012/13).

Although he started as a center, McMonagle was converted to defence. Now he is a smooth-skating two-way defenceman with good hands. In 2014, McMonagle was playing with HC Bolzano in Austria as a forward.
