Oakville Ranger Teams and Player Birth Years Uniquely Impacted by the New LOR Regulations for Spring Tryouts
Submitted By Melissa Wolk on Friday, April 07, 2017
With the implementation of the new LOR regulations for the 2017-18 season came some specific tryout process changes for those players born in 2008, 2007, and 2006 who currently reside in Oakville.   Tryout and release processes for age divisions and categories where there are more than one team have also been impacted by the new changes.

All Players and Parents should be aware of the new LOR Playing Regulations.  If questions aren’t covered within the OHF FAQ please feel free to contact the Oakville Rangers Hockey office and we will obtain an answer for you.

The below summarized information applies to players who are born in 2008, 2007, or 2006 who currently reside in Oakville and played for another LOR team in the 2016-2017 season. (does not apply to the player utilizing the grandfathering clause)

2008 Born Players Residing in Oakville:

  • All 2008 born players who played outside of Oakville in the 2016-2017 season will be required to attend tryouts and obtain a release from the Oakville Rangers Hockey Club before attending tryouts with another LOR team.
2007 and 2006 Born Players Residing in Oakville:
  • Players who played Minor Atom (2007 or 2008) and Atom (2006) in the 2016-17 season who are remaining with the same team for the 2017-18 season will not be required to attend tryouts or obtain a release from the Oakville Rangers Hockey Club.

  • Any 2007 and 2006 born players not remaining with the same team they played with in the 2016-2017 season will be required to attend tryouts and obtain a release from the Oakville Rangers Hockey Club.

Minor Atom to Peewee aged players who played for the Oakville Rangers in the 2016-2017 season must register and attend spring tryouts.  Those not offered a card will be given a release for the Division and Category with which they tried out (for example: A Player tries out for Atom AAA and is not offered a card for the AAA team.  That Player will be given a release to tryout for other AAA teams (within the LOR). A release at AAA does not permit a player to tryout within the LOR at lower categories. Each category (AAA, AA, and A) requires its own release from the Oakville Rangers

Tryouts for a Division and Category that have more than one Team. (does not apply to the player utilizing the grandfathering clause)

Teams uniquely impacted by the LOR Regulations Changes:

  • Atom A Blue
  • Minor PeeWee A Blue
  • Peewee AA Blue

For the Oakville Ranger Atom A, Minor Peewee A, and Peewee AA divisions, players must register and attend tryouts for the Red team in order to be eligible for a release at that division and category.  If a player attends the Red Team tryouts but is not offered a player registration for the Red team they may request a release.  If a player does not attend the Red team tryouts they will be listed as a “No Show” and will not be eligible to attend the Blue team tryouts or obtain a release for that division and category.

Peewee A Division:

At the Peewee A division, players are required to tryout and be released from both the Red and Blue teams in order to be eligible to participate with another LOR Team at the “A” Category.

Minor Bantam and Above Divisions:

For Minor Bantam and above, players must register for and attend the Red team tryouts in order to be eligible to tryout for the Blue team.
