Rangers Day in Oakville – Saturday, September 30
Submitted By Melissa Wolk on Friday, September 08, 2017
As you may have noticed, MOHA is changing.

At this point, many of the changes have not been visible – right-sizing the Board; bench-marking best-in-class bylaws and then rewriting ours; establishing an external dispute resolution process and committee; improving on the expertise of the Executive – boring but necessary stuff.  Some of the changes have been more visible – a new online Parent Survey; a new Coach Selection Process; improved Rep tryout process; the addition of Rep and Select teams; an outreach effort to bring players home; a renewed focus on skills development.  There are many more changes on the way which I will address in a separate note after the AGM.

For now, I want to discuss one of the most exciting changes which has already begun.  The Minor Oaks Hockey Association (MOHA) is changing to the Oakville Rangers Hockey Club (ORHC).  Why?

First and foremost, we want everyone to be Rangers – to belong to the club; to feel pride; to wear merchandise; to help build the brand.  Whether you are in House League, Rep or AAA – we will all be Rangers!

Secondly, from a Marketing/branding perspective, MOHA is a weak brand.  The Minor Oaks Hockey Association doesn’t even have Oakville in the name.  People have trouble connecting the current name to Oakville or the Rangers; it is difficult to search on the internet and it is a challenge to aggressively market the name which we intend to do.

Finally, the brand is old and, in our estimation, has more baggage than equity.  The club is changing and we want a name that reflects that change – that we can all be proud of – that is connected to Oakville.

So, on Saturday, September 30, 2017 we will officially launch the new brand at Rangers' Day in Oakville (new website, url,Facebook page and twitter account, etc.).  The event will take place at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex where we will fill all four rinks from approximately 8:00am until 10:00pm.  The day will feature all aspects of minor hockey.  The House League season will kick-off that day and so there will be games featuring 7 year olds all the way up to 18 year olds from Tyke to Midget.  As well, there will be a full slate of Rep games from Tyke 3 to Midget AAA.  Finally, the evening will end with an Oakville Blades game on Rink 1 that we hope to sell out!

In addition, there will be vendors, interactive games for kids, Hockey Hall of Fame exhibits and some very special guests, including Ron MacLean, Paul Henderson, Vic Hadfield, Adam Graves, Rob Zamuner and our Mayor, Rob Burton. Please mark Saturday, September 30th on your calendar right now.  Invite the grandparents, cousins and friends.  Bring a neighbour or your child’s classmate who may be interested in getting involved in hockey.  It will be a GREAT day for hockey; a GREAT day for Oakville and a GREAT day to be an Oakville Ranger!
