The Minor Peewee AA-1 Rangers took full
advantage of a last minute invitation to join the International Silver Stick
Minor Finals Tournament in Newmarket January 15-18, 2015.
With Cincinnati withdrawing from the Championship tournament, the door
was open for the Rangers to join the party and have a chance to prove
themselves against all of the regional champions from the US and Canada. After
losing a heart breaking final game to North Toronto in November in the Whitby Qualifiers,
the Rangers took full advantage of their opportunity to redeem themselves.
After going 3-1 in the round robin the Rangers clinched first place in their division and a semi-final berth against Newmarket Redmen. The Rangers battled the whole game, coming from behind and defeating the Redmen 3-2. This gave the Rangers a further chance of redemption when their finals opponent from Whitby, North Toronto, also qualified for the finals. The Rangers played a nearly flawless game and never trailed North Toronto, winning in convincing fashion.
The Rangers played strong team defense and team offense throughout the tournament. Players, families, and coaches all came together and the result speaks for itself. The Silver Stick is the premier hockey tournament and to be crowned champions is an outstanding achievement that the team and MOHA can and should be proud of.
