Dan Ringwald was born in New Westminster, BC, before moving to Oakville, ON. He was part of the Oakville Rangers Minor Bantam AAA team that won the OMHA championship in 2001 and continued to play for the Oakville Rangers until moving up to Jr. A with the Oakville Blades from 2003 to 2006, leading Oakville to a conference championship in his last season. Ringwald registered eight goals and 28 assists in 47 games.

Prior to turning pro, he played four seasons at the Rochester Institute of Technology where he scored 123 points (21-102-123) in 146 games and was named the NCAA Atlantic Hockey Association's Best Defenceman during his senior year. Ringwald was a three-time selection to the Empire 8 President’s List, which recognizes student-athletics for maintaining a 3.75 GPA or higher. He graduated in three years, boasting a 3.8 GPA. He left R.I.T as the program’s all-time leading assist (104) and point (125) scorer among defencemen in its Division I history.

Ringwald started with the Greenville Road Warriors, a Minor Professional team based in S.C, in 2010. He attended training camp with the Oklahoma City Barons before being assigned to the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL for the remainder of that season. He played 61 games with the Thunder in his first professional season, recording 23 points (1-22-23). He stayed with Stockton (ECHL) until he was called up to Barons during the 2011 season (The Oklahoma City Barons are affiliated with the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL). Ringwald played a consistent role with the Barons during their 2012 Calder Cup playoff run. Skating in all 14 Barons postseason games, Ringwald recorded four assists and posted a +2 rating.

Ringwald returned to the Stockton Thunder before moving to Bad Nauheim EC in the DEL-2 League in Germany in 2013. He is still playing hockey with them today.
