Josh Disher was born in Oakville, ON and started playing hockey with the Oakville Rangers. Disher was with the Oakville Blades (OPJHL) for the 2001/02 season, before moving to the Burlington Cougars. He played two tier junior with the Cougars in 2002/03. Disher was named the 2003 Junior A Rookie of the Year.

Disher was drafted in the 2003 OHL Priority Selection in round 12, 225th overall by the Erie Otters. While playing with the Otters, Disher got the lion’s share of starts in an extremely tough division. His impressive rookie season led to the New Jersey Devils selecting him in the 6th round, 185th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Unfortunately, Disher never quite reached the same level of performance after the draft. The 2005/06 season saw Disher playing 54 games with the Otters. At the end of his Otters career, Disher played only three games in the pros (the Albany River Rats, AHL -1 game, and the Johnstown Chiefs, ECHL- 2 games).

Disher enrolled in Dalhousie University in the fall of 2006 studying the Management Program. He played hockey with the Tigers (AUS – Atlantic University Sport) until graduation in 2011. In his final year with the Tigers, Disher was awarded Player of the Week honours in October 2010.
