Great Finish to the Season
The Ice Dogs were determined to move up the standings.
The Ice Dogs finished their final season game on Sunday in the form of a make up game. The boys knew a win would move them up in the season standings and they were determined that was what they were going to do. There was not much need for a pregame speech as they were pumped up.
The boys followed Saturday's win with an almost identical effort on Sunday. They finished the weekend with two regular season wins which was enough to move them up to 4th place in the year end standings. It's a huge accomplishment considering where the team began the season. The boys now recognize the improvement in themselves which, as a coach, is most gratifying.
The tournament was the catalyst for their finding the final piece to the puzzle. They learned to play, and score, as a team. They learned how to apply pressure to the opposition and they all seem to have accepted their roles for the good of the team. They are no longer attempting end to end rushes but have figured out that positioning and going to the net wins games. They trust their line mates to be where they should be, and they know if they get the puck in front of the net, their line mate will be there.
The Ice Dogs are looking forward to the playoffs. This is what they have been working towards all season and have never given up regardless of the bad luck they have endured. These kids inspire me.
